Are you taking these yourself? They all have such a nice soft-focused look. These are great.

what do you think about this portrait, jenn? there are several obviousalways to read such a portrait for me, some of which may even be apt! i will list a few just for your amusement..

um. your eyes being absent from the frame means that the viewer feels less confronted and perhaps..perhaps freer to let their eyes linger where they wish. mine, for example, start at your lips, then move down and get lost in the curving lines. the absent eyes seem a sort of invitation for the viewer to gaze..though not so boldly sexual as Titian's Venus [her eyes are integral].

Yes, it is still you being capatured, but i suppose with your eyes gone the image is slightly depersonalized thus allowing you to see it as others might. surely there are reasons one might want to depersonalize a self portrait..

hm..the conscious excise of the eyes as some freudian [i do not read freud] symbol. the girl is all too aware of the self portrait as being somewhat of a masturbatory exercise in narcisism and so she shields her eyes [in the image] as a sort of symbolic wince.

oh..hm..perhaps the simple answer is apt. perhaps she isn't happy with her eyes and so she does hide them.

i hope these comments do not disturb too much. they are likely projections regarding my own self portraits..

i take self portraits on a number of levels...

firstly i have more experience using my camera than most of the people around me (with the exception of oldben, whose portraits of me have definitely become good stuff over the last year or so... example.

i also like to look at myself from the outside, or from a larger perspective. the directions & currents in my life have led me to become a sort of unofficial official archivist, so i'm capturing my role in the world much like i capture that of others.

i have more to say about this but i'm a little discombobulated & will have to come back to this...

now i spaced out that link twice...didn't enter the comment for the correction...blahblahblah...

the example is here, from the cherry blossom festival in DC (one of my favorite photo ops from this year. always in april there's one really good one, must be a seasonal thing. last april was niagara falls.
