question, madam: do you know the fellow who is depicted? if you do not, i'm curious about what lines of thought you follow when deciding what is appropriate for display. e.g. there was one fellow i would have loved to capture, but i just didn't feel right about doing so without his permission. but the permission itself and his awareness would have reduced the photographic possibilities==it would have made impossible the very image i would have found interesting. do you have a policy of sorts?

[i do hope you hang about webpix long enough to join, if you wanted to..]

i do not know the young man, no.
i don't really have a policy so much as an intuitive guide...if i feel like it'd be invasive to take a photo, then it probably would be.

as far as appropriate for display...hmmmmm, the ones that turn out well?

in my experience so far it's been mostly that people really don't mind what i do with their image, as long as it doesn't make them look bad.

it's much more tenuous, actually, with people i do know. i feel mostly compelled to ask permission (at least at first--usually they're pretty gung-ho about it) & there are some people who will never be displayed, or at least identified, as per their wishes.
whereas strangers on the beach are highly unlikely to come across their photo at all, unless the laws of probability get funky.
& i trust that if anyone weren't pleased by their representation, they'd let me know, & i'd remove the offending image...

answer your question at all?
i guess, in short, i figure it out as i go along.

besides, you can always ask if they mind after you take the photo.

as for the web-pix question, it seems a little tetchy over there at the moment (although i'm sure that'll pass, & when it does i'd be thrilled purple to join up...)
& i can't even leave comments there now, so who knows...
